The scientists recommend that all stroke patients shall be screened for sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea History Sleep apnea is a disorder defined as a pause of breathing while asleep. There are three types of sleep apnea. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is the most common. The third and final type of sleep apnea is Mixed Sleep Apnea and is rare. The type of sleep apnea is a combination of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central Sleep Apnea. Each pause in the breathing while sleeping is called an apnea.
